Tilt, play and unlock your favorite Women’s World Cup star

Teaming up with Whalar, we translated Nike’s tournament spirit into a social-first AR experience. Rather than direct athlete interaction, fans dived into a virtual bracket: each tilt prompted a new head-to-head match, and every selection invited users to record and share why they backed that icon. This mechanic drove authentic UGC - real voices, real reactions— - that amplified Nike’s WWC buzz far beyond the pitch.

Head-to-Head: Choose Your Icon

Choose Your Nike FC Icon let users virtually “wear” athlete headshots on their forehead and tilt their head left or right to advance stars through successive knockout rounds. Each selection prompted participants to explain their pick on camera - turning the filter into a personal narrative of football fandom and encouraging deeper, more authentic content creation.

Viral Reach & Hashtag Momentum

the #NikeFC filter fueled a surge of UGC under the wider #nike umbrella. The filter saw hundreds of thousands of uses within days, with standout creator videos surpassing 70 K views, contributing to the 5.1 million posts and 67.2 billion views of #nike content on TikTok.

Elevating Football Fandom

By gamifying athlete selection and inviting fans to share their “why” on-screen, Choose Your Nike FC Icon transformed a global tournament into a personal TikTok moment. The AR filter not only amplified Nike’s presence in TikTok’s For You feeds but also deepened emotional connections, proving that when brands blend sport, tech and play, they can score big with digitally native audiences.

Choose Your Nike FC Icon

For Nike’s Women’s World Cup 2023, we created Choose Your Nike FC Icon - a TikTok AR filter that let fans play through Nike’s star-studded roster by tilting their heads to advance athletes, uncovering their personal favourite. In its launch week, the filter racked up over 200,000 plays, sparked 150,000+ user-generated videos and consistently trended in TikTok’s WWC conversations.
